Scott Elmer Backstrom, 56, of Pelican Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on November 1st, 2023. Born on October 17th, 1967, in Fergus Falls, MN, Scott was the son of Elroy and Leone (Anderson) Backstrom. He grew up in Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School.  Scott attended Thief River Falls Technical College where he nurtured his passion for radio broadcasting.

Throughout his career, Scott worked tirelessly in the field of IT and web design, dedicating the last 21 years as a web developer for Otter Tail County. Colleagues remember his enthusiasm for his job and his ability to connect with people. His culinary skills were also renowned, with one of his favorite annual rituals being the cooking at the Annual Employee Picnics – a time for celebration and camaraderie.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Scott was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He loved attending games, whether cheering on the Vikings or engaging in friendly banter with fans of opposing teams during tailgating parties. His infectious energy and love for the sport led him to become a part of the Viking World Order (VWO), an honor he cherished. Scott actively participated in various charity events, including the Polar Plunge for MN Special Olympics, where he demonstrated his commitment to supporting the community.

In his leisure time, Scott enjoyed a range of activities. He found solace in the tranquility of fishing, the thrill of disk golf, and the immersive world of computer games. His passion for photography allowed him to capture beautiful moments, while his love for sci-fi and fantasy films transported him to different worlds. Scott also dedicated countless hours to his home projects, transforming his basement into a personal sanctuary. His creativity and craftsmanship were apparent, evident in the Viking bar and stools he built and even a ping pong ball machine he constructed for fantasy football drafts. Additionally, he created a harmonious ecosystem in his backyard pond, populated with diverse fish and plants.

Scott cherished moments spent with his loved ones, eagerly embarking on adventures with family and friends. His trip to Norway, Denmark, and Sweden with his wife's family held a special place in his heart, creating memories that would be treasured forever. Scott's annual ice fishing outings with his friends served as a testament to his affinity for the outdoors and his knack for forging lasting bonds.

Scott shared his life with his beloved spouse, Jacqueline Backstrom (Ahrndt), whom he married in 1992. He deeply loved his daughters, Amanda Backstrom and Leah (Tony) Peterson, and brought joy to the lives of his extended family. He is survived by his mother-in-law, LaVonne (Arlin) Brosowske, as well as his sister, Lynnette (Steve) Zimmerman, brother, Steve (Barb) Backstrom, sister, Anita (Kevin) Boen, sister-in-law Nancy (Richard) Jennen, and brother-in-law Richard (Susan) Ahrndt.
