Sally Helgeson Christianson

Sally Helgeson Christianson, age 100, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on June 3, 2018, at Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids, MN. Sally was born July 18, 1917 in Barnesville, MN, the daughter of Fred and Marie Sampson. She was raised and attended country school in Rothsay, MN.  On July 9, 1939 she was united in marriage with Marvin Helgeson.  Most of Sally’s time was spent raising her family.  She was also well-known for making donuts and pies for the Rothsay Pool Hall and Rothsay Truck Stop.  Marvin died in October of 1975.  In April of 1977, Sally married Orris Christianson.  Sally enjoyed helping Orris on the farm and gardening.  In November of 1991 they moved to Pelican Rapids.  Orris died in December of 1998. Sally enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, bowling, dancing, crocheting afghans, and making lefse. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially grandchildren.  Sally was a former member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rothsay and a present member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard. Sally and Orris served as custodians at Grace Lutheran Church for numerous years. Sally is survived by her daughters: Janice Briks, Moorhead, MN; Carol (Ed) Herrmann, Fargo, ND; sons: Richard (Connie) Helgeson, Mesa, AZ; Warren (Janice Rudh) Helgeson, Rothsay, MN; stepsons, Jerry (Priscilla) Christianson, Tucson, AZ and Don (Linda) Christianson, Dent, MN; stepdaughter Carol (David) Hansen, Moorhead, MN; 18 grandchildren: Barb (Steve) Kreps, Sandy Maesse, Cheryl (Pat) Jaquin, Mike (LeAnn) Herrmann, Mark (Lisa) Herrmann, Martha (John) Voss, Marvin (Jan) Helgeson, Rachel (Dan) Luken, Evy (Ken) Rhodes, Missy (Kevin Smith) Nord, Sean (Amy) Helgeson, David (Patty) Christianson, Leroy Christianson, Christopher Christianson, Corey (Carla) Moen, Stacey (Matt) Mitchell, Lisa (Jim) Rieber, and Kyle (Cassie) Christianson; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. ­­­­She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Marvin and Orris; two brothers: Julian and Morgan; sister, Peggy; son-in-law, Melvin Briks; grandson-in-law, Kevin Maesse. Sally’s family would like to thank the staff of the Pelican Valley Health Center for their years of loving care and devotion for their mom.
