Roger Bergren

March 2, 1940 — February 10, 2021

Roger Bergren left his earthly home, surrounded by family and Hospice of the Red River Valley, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 to begin his journey to meet his Savior. Roger Eugene (Johnson) Bergren was born March 2, 1940, in Pelican Rapids, MN to Albert Johnson and Elizabeth (Betty Carlson) Bergren. He attended country school in Dist. 35 E and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1958. His father, Albert, passed away in 1946 and in 1953 his mother married Carl Bergren who later adopted Betty’s three children. On December 28, 1963, he married “the girl next door”, Kathy Degner in Barnesville, MN. They moved back to the Johnson farm in 1964 and Roger worked for Hohman Telephone Co. Later he joined the construction world working for Norman Lundhagen Construction, Ivan Soberg Construction and Dynamic Homes. Roger farmed in addition to these jobs. He was known for his finishing carpentry work and furniture building skills. Roger was baptized at Central Lutheran Church, confirmed at Grove Lake Lutheran. He served on the church council, church sexton and was part of several building projects at Central Lutheran Church. He was self-taught taxidermy work, mounting several birds, fish and animals and tanning several hides. Another of Roger’s adventures was raising silver fox. He was never afraid to try new things. The fox business yielded a silver fox fur coat for Kathy at the end of the adventure. Later Roger and Al Siegle joined forces to begin a venture to raising Corriente cattle as roping stock. This adventure was named, A & R Cattle Company and introduced them to many new friends in the rodeo world. There were lots of fun adventures raising the cattle, the annual branding using their registered brand. Each fall they hosted the Cowboy Campfires with singalong for family and friends at the farm. Roger’s hobbies included hunting, summer fishing and ice fishing, trapping, trap shooting and camping with family and friends. He loved being with family, especially the grands and great-grands. Preceding him in death are his father and mother, brother David Bergren and sister Alberta (Bergren) Flemmer, father and mother-in-law, Herbert and Gertrude Degner, and adoptive father. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Kathy; sons Keith (Debbie) Bergren and Paul (Jodi) Bergren; daughter Leanne (Bill) Meis; grandchildren Bryce Bergren (Tracey Dillon), April (Jordan) Arntson, Nick (Teena) Jessen , Courtney (Brittanni) Smith, Mackenzie Meis and Kaitlyn Meis (Cody Schultz), Taylor Bergren (Joe Paquette), Jack Bergren (Maria Lagomsarsoin) and Isaac Bergren, great-grandchildren Calli, Kelsey, Easton, Cody, Cassie, Alli, Kloe, Kayson, Finnley, and Bentley Roger; brother-in-law, Daniel (Oxana) Flemmer, sister-in-law, Barb (John) Leger, niece, Tamara (Greg) Potts, nephews Kevin Bergren, and Nathan, Austin and Jake (Sarah) Flemmer and uncles, aunts and cousins.
