Robert Robley

October 5, 1932 — May 29, 2018

Robert Charles Robley, age 85, of rural Vergas, MN, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Essentia Health Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN. Bob was born at home in Pelican Rapids on October 5, 1932 to Herbert and Ida (Gilberts) Robley. He was baptized and confirmed at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church. After attending Pelican Rapids School, he worked as a farm laborer for Raymond Haugrud. Bob proudly served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. On September 1, 1956, Bob married his best friend, Eileen Johnson at Zion Lutheran Church. Bob and Eileen lovingly raised three children; Rachael, Becky and Bobby on the family farm. Bob worked for the Minnesota DNR as a heavy equipment operator. His crew worked state-wide, headquartered out of the fish hatchery at Detroit Lakes. He retired on January 26, 1994 after 40 years of service. Bob was a faithful servant of God. Through the years he was very active at Zion Lutheran Church, serving as president and member of the church congregation and cemetery board for many years. He always lent a helping hand to those in need. He loved to work outside, chopping wood and working around the farm. Bob had a gentle demeanor, was very soft-spoken but loved to joke and laugh. He was a child at heart and especially loved playing with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He had a special place in his heart for animals and could often be found giving the farm dogs a gentle pat on the head. Bob and Eileen enjoyed many adventures exploring the country, traveling to all 50 states and Europe.
