Richard M. Treichel, age 78, of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at his residence under the care of HIA Hospice.

Richard was born on June 13, 1948, in Ada, Minnesota, to Frank and Stella (Habedank) Treichel. He attended school in Ada, MN and graduating from Moorhead High School. Shortly after high school he started his own mechanic shop in the Twins Cities. Then started driving truck, he owned his own truck for many years and drove for Gabor Trucking and Foltz Trucking both of Detroit Lakes, MN; Georgia Pacific, Fargo, ND; LeFebvre Transportation, Elk River, MN; and Spring Prairie/Taracon, Hawley, MN retiring from there in 2022. Richard achieved over 3 million accident-free miles. He drove truck in every state except Maine and Hawaii.

On September 14, 2013, Richard married his best friend and soulmate Cindy Budke at Moorhead, MN. Richard was a huge romantic, he bought Cindy flowers each and every week until he became too sick to do so.

Richard enjoyed fishing, Nascar, football, riding his RZR especially in mud per request of Cindy and cars. He also had a talent for woodworking, building tables, dressers, and urns for himself and his mother-in-law. Richard was a little league baseball coach. He enjoyed traveling to warmer climates in the winter. Richard especially enjoyed getting together with family, especially his 3 adorable granddaughters to which they had grandpa wrapped around his little finger. Richard was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Richard is survived by his wife Cindy, sons: Scott Treichel, Hopkins, MN, Colin (Beth) Berg, Pelican Rapids, MN, Lucas (Allison) Berg, Rothsay, MN; grandchildren: Nova, Evelyn, Lucy Berg; brothers: James (Judy) Treichel, Kenneth Treichel; sister Sande Kochis; sisters-in-law: Gina (Randy) Stallman, Lisa Budke; brother-in-law Troy (Tatum) Budke; Pomeranian Pebbles; special longtime friend Mike Bevins; godchildren: Taylor Ness, Lilli Ness, Jakob Ness; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Stella; sisters: Terri Brown, Judith Fetting; brother-in-law Pete Fetting; mother-in-law Mavis Budke.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
