Phyllis Maureen Vigen

Phyllis Vigen, age 86, of West Fargo, ND, formerly of Pelican Rapids, MN died Monday, September 14, 2020 at her residence. Phyllis Maureen was born July 4, 1934 in Fargo, ND, to S. Gordon and Connie (Maita) Erickson. She attended school in Fargo, ND, graduating from Shanley High School in 1952. After graduating, Phyllis attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, MN. Then she was the principal and also taught elementary school in Audubon, MN. On December 4, 1958 Phyllis married Keith Vigen at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Fargo, ND. Phyllis was one of the founding teachers of Preschool Primary in Rothsay, MN which is now Head Start. She also taught in Pelican Rapids, MN as an ESL (English as a Second Language) and was a Paraprofessional. Phyllis and Keith both wanted a big family, so she spent much of her time raising their 8 children. Later Phyllis worked also at West Central Turkeys in Pelican Rapids, MN. Keith died on May 21, 1989. After Keith’s death, Phyllis moved to West Fargo, ND. During this time, Phyllis worked in the shoe department at Walmart. Phyllis was an avid reader, watched Jeopardy, and liked watching Olympic figure skating. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, West Fargo, ND. Phyllis is survived by her children: Scott Vigen, Scarlett (Charles) Wiger, Tony Vigen, Ted Vigen, Russ Vigen, Rosemary (Stephen) Wiese, Connie (Steve) Lerew, Cindy (Kim) Owen; grandchildren: Andrea (Scott) Radke, Tamsen Wiger, James Vigen, Cassandra (Bryce) Heaton, Victoria (Roland) Gilbert III, Gary Wiger, Kelsey Lerew, Brandon Lerew, Devlin Owen, and Rhys Owen; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Radke, Isabel Radke, Olivia Radke, Caleb Douglas, Samara Krause, Arianna Vigen, Henry Heaton, and Penelope Heaton; brothers: David (Laurie) Erickson, Ivan (Pat) Erickson, Dennis Erickson; sister Diane (Justo) Mari; sister-in-law Jan Erickson, brother-in-law Don Olmstead and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by parents S. Gordon and Connie Erickson, husband Keith Vigen, grandson Carl Wiese, sister Noelle Olmstead, brother Paul Erickson. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. Visitation: Sunday, September 20, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 21, 2020, at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
