Nona Ione Rick

December 11, 1938 — December 7, 2023

Pelican Rapids

Nona Ione Rick, a cherished resident of Lake Ida near Cormorant, MN, passed away at Essentia Health on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the age of 84. Born on December 11, 1938, to her parents Andrew and Selma Boesen, Nona lived a life filled with love, laughter, and resilience.

Growing up near Rothsay, Nona graduated from Breckenridge High School before embarking on a remarkable journey. On a beautiful summer day, July 5, 1957, she exchanged vows with the love of her life, Paul Rick, in the town of Breckenridge, MN. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Shannon (Everett P.) Erickson and Carmen Rick. Their love carried them to Southern Minnesota before they settled in the serene beauty of Lake Ida near Cormorant in 1969.

Nona's gentle nature and talent led her to pursue a career in cosmetology. She attended cosmetology school in Fargo, where she obtained her manager's license and established her beloved Nona's Beauty Shop. For many years, Nona welcomed her clients into her home, sharing her skill and warm hospitality. She built lasting friendships and created beautiful transformations with her artistry.

Nona's deep faith was an integral part of her life. She actively participated in the community, teaching Sunday School and a member of the Belles of St. Mary of the Lakes. Additionally, she found solace and support as a member of the grief support group in Pelican Rapids. Nona's passion for life extended to her hobbies, as she found joy in reading, knitting, crocheting, and even daring snowmobile adventures in her younger years.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter Shannon (Everett P.) Erickson of Pelican Rapids along with her granddaughter Sommer (Bob) Dow of New York Mills. Nona's legacy continues through her four great-grandchildren: Trisha Kregar, Izaiah (Talia) Moberg, Megan Dow, and Grace Moberg. In addition, she delighted in the presence of her great-great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, Kato, and Kayden. Nona is also survived by her sister Linda Schmitt, sisters-in-law RoseAnn Brink and Mary Jane (Fred) Crafton, Carmen's dear friend Craig Severson, her beloved cat Buddy, and numerous nieces and nephews.

While our hearts ache with the loss of our beloved Nona, we find solace in the memories she leaves behind. She was reunited in eternal peace with her parents, her beloved husband Paul who passed away in April 2018, her daughter Carmen, her sister Jeanette (Vernon) Frank, and brother Percy (Rosemond) Boesen.

A heartfelt celebration of Nona's extraordinary life will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, rural Detroit Lakes, MN with Msgr. Mike Foltz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral mass at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church. We will gather to honor her memory, share stories, and find comfort in the embrace of loved ones.

Nona Ione Rick touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and vibrant presence will be dearly missed. May her soul find eternal rest, and may we find comfort in the loving memories we hold dear.
