Mathilda Ann Moe

October 4, 1936 — July 4, 2025

Fergus Falls

Mathilda Ann Aspen Moe was born on October 4th, 1936 in Soldiers Grove, WI to Alf and Ruth Aspen.  She passed peacefully on Friday, July 4th, 2025 at her care facility in fergus Falls with her loving family close at hand.

Mathilda attended Davis Dale Elementary and Soldiers Grove High School, then continued her education at Luther College and Wartburg for Elementary Education, obtaining a Bachelors Degree which applied to her dedicated career of teaching.

Tildy was happily joined in marriage to ray Moe, whom she met on a blind date, July 2st, 1957 at North Kickapoo Church.  They raised two children together; Paula and Jon.  Ray and Tildy lived in Mason City and Swea City, IA, as well as Worthington, MN before eventually settling in Pelican rapids, MN.  Ray passed in 2007, after 50 devoted years of marriage to Mathilda.

Tildy taught gardes 2-6 for 38 and a half years of her career, mostly in Worthington, MN.  She was very passionate about teaching, loved her students as her own, and consider her staff to be like family.  One of the skills she passed on to many was bird identification by not only sight, but by sound as well!  She took many students on field trips to Shetek State Park, where this masterful skill was applied first-hand.

Tildy was very active in Church, whether it be through Boards she served on, quilting (as part of the Blue Jean Quilters at Trinity, which sent hundreds of quilts to various missions), teaching Sunday School, Circle, or making thousands of meatballs (literally) for the annual lutefisk supper.  She absolutely loved First Lutheran Church in Worthington and Trinity Lutheran in Pelican Rapids.

She loved quilting, working at Pass It On, traveling to Norway and to many states, spending time with her grandchildren (whom they lovingly call "Granny T"), drives through her favorite state park (Maplewood), musicals (especially Fiddler on the Roof), and watching NCIS on television.

Tildy was encouraging to all, making everyone she met feel special.  She was a genuine soul, and her laughter filled every room with life and joy!  She loved her family, friends, and God very deeply.

Tildy is survived by her ch8ildren, Paula (Jeff) Orthaus and Jon (Heidi) Moe;  grandchildren, Katie (Jake) Berg, Kelsey (Robin) Marquardt, Samuel Moe, and Elizabeth Moe; her siblings, Pauline Parker and Allan (Jeanine) Aspen, as well as four great-grandsons, many neices, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, ray, her parents, and many dear friends.

Whenever asked what she wanted for a gift, she always replied "Peace in the world."  Today we pray that you will feel that peace that only God can give, because today, Mom's wish came true.  She has peace like a river.  It is well with my soul.  It is well, it is well with my soul.

A memorial service will be conducted for Tildy on Tuesday, July 8th, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Pelican Rapids, beginning with a time of visitation at 10am, followed by formal services at 11am.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Quilters of Trinity Lutheran, Pelican Rapids, by contacting Trinity Lutheran Church directly.  God Bless you all!
