Marvin LeRoy Martinson

Marvin Martinson, age 80, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Riverfront on Main surrounded by family with the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Marvin LeRoy was born on March 20, 1942, in Fergus Falls, MN to Herman and Dorothy (Barringer) Martinson. His family resided in Rothsay until Marvin was five, when they moved to a farm east of Pelican Rapids. He attended the nearby country school, District 166 near Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1961. When Marvin was in high school, he started working for Boe’s Grocery Store in Pelican Rapids. After graduation he went on to work for the Minnesota Conservation Department, Larsen’s Super Value, and Larry’s Super Market. Marv and Winnie owned and operated the Hillside Motel shortly after being married. Marv retired from Larry's at age 65, two weeks later he went on to start work at the Good Samaritan Society which later became Riverfront of Main.

On March 19, 1966, Marvin married Winnie McMullen at First Methodist Church in Fargo, ND. 

Marvin was a member of Pelican Rapids Jaycees, a Charter Member of the Pelican River Pheasants Forever, he was a Pelican Rapids Ambulance Volunteer, and a Volunteer for the Pelican Rapids Fire Department for 22 years.

Marvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Marv and Winnie enjoyed 20 plus summers out at Franks Lodge and Resort. He also enjoyed sharing a joke or a conversation with anyone who crossed his path.

Memorials preferred to be given to Pelican Rapids Fire Department and Pelican Valley Senior Living.

Marvin is survived by his wife Winnie; daughters: Beth McDonald with her children: Brett (Ashley) McDonald with their daughter Ava McDonald and Logan McDonald; Cindy (Tim) Hart with their children: Gavin (Lacena)Hart, Preston Hart, Hayden Hart, and Andria (Erick Johnson) Hart and their children: Kirra and Braxton Johnson; brothers and sisters: Delores Monson, Larry (Anita) Martinson, Morris (Marlene) Martinson, Judy Grahn, Marlene (Don) Matz, Carol (Duane) Haiby, Linda (LeRoy) Miller, Connie (Vernon) Wifall; and many nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Herbert and Donald (Kathi); sisters: Avis (John) Pearson and Elaine (Gordon) Sneva; brothers-in-law: Don Monson and Larry Grahn; son-in-law David McDonald.

Visitation: Monday, December 12, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.

Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.

Clergy:  Pastor Eric Schwirian and Allen Westby, S.A.M.

Interment: There will be a private family service at a later date at Ringsaker Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota
