Marlan Evenson

Marlan Evenson, 89, of Pelican Rapids, MN died Thursday, February 27, 2020, at Pelican Valley Senior Living with his family by his side. Marlan Phillip Duane was born October 2, 1930 in Pelican Rapids, the son of Gilbert and Nina (Bjerke) Evenson. He attended a country school north of Pelican Rapids. On February 14, 1953 Marlan married Marlene Lund. They built a family together, built a business together, and enjoyed a 67 year marriage. For a couple of years Marlan worked as a lineman for Lake Region Electrical Association in Pelican Rapids. From 1954 to 1956 he served in the United States Army. After his military duty, he was employed for more than 20 years with International Transport owning his own trucks. Over the years, Marlan worked with his brother Gerald in trucking; they started Evenson Bros. Inc. in 1978. It operated until 2016. In 1975 Marlan and Marlene purchased Birchwood Golf Course; in 1995 they sold the golf course to their son Brian; they continued to help Brian at the golf course until the fall of 2018. Marlan enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, playing billiards and being part of the Pool Hall Gang. His greatest love was spending time with his family. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Pelican Rapids Fire Department for 20 years. Marlan is survived by his wife Marlene; four children: Brian (Connie) Evenson, Linda (Gene) Zsedeny, Carol (Mike) Osten, and Michael (Sandy) Evenson; grandchildren: Janelle (Nathan) Berseth, Jonah (Erin) Evenson, Andrew Evenson, Jessica (Zsedeny) Hibl, Christa (Jake Weber) Zsedeny, Riley Zsedeny, Stacie Graham, Thomas Graham, Alisha (Jer) Simones, Elizabeth Osten, Megan Osten, Brock Evenson, Tyler Evenson, and Carter Evenson; great-grandchildren: Payton Sharp, Ciara Hibl, Samuel Osten, Bianca Berseth, Elijah Osten, Cora & Jack Marlan Evenson, Olivia Weber, Jack Simones, and Charlotte Weber; sister-in-law Audrey Missinne; brother-in-law Barry (Peg) Bratland; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gerald and wife Maxine. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. with Allen Westby, S.A.M. officiating.
