Keith Homan

Remembering the life of… Edward “Keith” Homan was born March 28, 1931, in Pelican Rapids, MN. He was the son of Edward and Bernice (Sherman) Homan. He grew up in rural Pelican Rapids and attended country school district 217. Keith was very active in 4H, Banghor baseball, and working with his dad on the farm. He graduated from PRHS in 1948. Keith attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul from 1949-50. The next few years he farmed, drove truck, worked at the Pelican Poultry Plant, and at the Farmer’s Elevator. In 1959, he bought the Ollie Erickson turkey farm and continued to raise turkeys for the next 33 years, retiring from the turkey business in 1992. From 1993 through 2008, Keith used the turkey barns for his storage (boats, pontoons, cars, etc.) business. He also did custom mowing with his John Deere Batwing Mower. On March 5th, 1960, Keith married Karen Rieman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. Together, they raised three children; Bradley, Blake, and Nancy. Keith served on the Faith Lutheran Church council, and as chairman for two years. He was a member of the building committee of the first new parish hall. He was a charter member of the reorganized Pelican Rapids Jaycees, and he served on the West Central Turkeys Board of Directors for 20 years; two years as chairman.   Keith enjoyed following high school sports, pro-football and baseball, college football and basketball, computers (and other technology gadgets), walking, visits with grandchildren, and talking with friends every day around the coffee tables of the local restaurants. Keith, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 06, 2018 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN. Keith is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Karen; sons Brad (Julie) Homan of Bloomington, MN, Blake (Jessica) Homan of Saratoga, CA, daughter Nancy, (Jeff) Litvack of Edina, MN; Six grandchildren: Emily and Alec Homan, Rachel and Gavin Homan, Oliver and Norah Litvack; one sister, Virginia (Ginger) Homan of Grand Rapids, MN; Three sisters-in-law: Bev (James) Neuharth, Phyllis (Roger) Bakken, Connie (Larry) Schyma; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Adeline Homan, and parents-in-law, Merlin Rieman, Hazel and Bud Erickson. Visitation:  Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home in Pelican Rapids. Funeral: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN with Pastor Philip Johnson officiating.
