John Edward Kvare

John E. Kvare, age 59, of Pelican Rapids, was killed in a vehicle accident on October 19, 2026.

Born March 16, 1967, to Charles and Barbara Kvare of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, John graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1985 and Detroit Lakes Technical College in 1988.

John spent most of his working life in the family business of trucking, salvage, and excavating. Whether operating or repairing equipment, John excelled. A skilled mechanic, he was the guy who could apply the permanent fix or the temporary fix that would allow one to finish the job, the project, the harvest, or just get back home.

Known for his loud booming voice, infectious laugh, generous spirit, and kind nature, John was a visible presence around the Pelican Lakes area. Sociable and friendly, John loved morning coffee with the guys at the Cornfield Cafe and happy hour at the Cormorant Pub with some of his closest and most cherished friends.

Open-hearted, one never had to guess how he felt. He was present, supportive, and always available. He loved his family and friends, and they knew it—most especially his children and grandchildren, who were at the center of his world.

John leaves behind his children: John Thomas (Rebecca) Kvare, Brandon (Stephanie) Kvare, and Clarissa Kvare; his grandchildren: Piper, Logan, Kait, and Myra; his parents: Charles and Barbara Kvare; his brother: Mark Kvare; sister: Beth (Jeff) Lang; niece Taylor (Bryce) Messner; nephew Jake (Anna) Lang and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his grandson Tate Kvare, and his grandparents, Alvin and Jeannette Kvare, and George and Ethel Thompson.

On Friday, October 23, 2026, services will be held at Larson Funeral and Cremation Service in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, with visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m. and services at 3:00 p.m. A celebration of life for John will be held at the Cormorant Pub in Cormorant, Minnesota, at 5:30 p.m.
