Jeanette Mae Gobel

Jeanette Mae Gobel, age 98, Pelican Rapids, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026 at Pelican Valley Care Center. She was born to the late Edwin and Jennie (Hagerup) Nettestad on December 24, 1927.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids at 11am on Monday, January 26, 2026. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Jeanette will be laid to rest in Grove Lake Cemetery at a later date.

Jeanette was born and raised in Pelican Rapids. She was baptized and confirmed at South Emmanuel Church and attended District 87, The Little Red School House. Jeanette worked as the Custodian at Pelican Rapids Schools for over 40 years, where everyone who knew her was treated with kindness. She was also a lifelong member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Jeanette was always on the go; she spent her free time walking, meeting friends for coffee, and cooking for others. Jeanette was especially well known for making traditional Norwegian food and has passed down her recipes to her children and grandchildren. She also volunteered her time and cooking skills for the VFW and to the nursing homes.

Jeanette is survived by her son, John (Pam) Gobel; son-in-law, Dave Gilbertson; grandchildren, Meghan Gobel, Sam (Donna) Gobel, Courtney (Jared) Swiers, Lori (Rick) Jorgenson, Wendy (Mark) Rodewald, Chad Scharnberg, Tate (Mandy) Scharnberg, and Casey (Tam) Jones; great grandchildren, Eilee, Nixen, Stella, Leo, Axton, Oakley, Emersyn, Jessi, Alissa, Lark, Osa, and Milo; great great grandchildren, Brooke, Brody, Jordyn, and Carter; and special nieces, Pat Rudie and Diane Small.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Gobel; children, Janice Gilbertson and Mary Bayne; siblings, Harry Nettestad, Esther Jensen, Orin Nettestad, Florence Small, Milo Nettestad, and Elna Nettestad; and great granddaughter, Nicole Rodewald.
