Harold Miller, 90, of Pelican Rapids, MN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025 and went to his eternal home to be with his Lord. His enduring legacy is rooted in his deep faith and devotion to his family.
Harold was born on July 19, 1934 and was raised on a farm near Erhard, MN, and graduated from high school in Fergus Falls, MN. He continued his education with courses at Moorhead State University and the University of Minnesota.
Harold served in the Army and Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1957. During this time, he married Betty Schwanke on October 23, 1954. They recently celebrated an extraordinary milestone; 70 years of marriage.
Harold built a life of service, hard work, and leadership. He managed Red Owl grocery stores before he and Betty opened their own business, Miller’s Fairway, in Prior Lake, MN. Later, he transitioned into education, becoming an instructor at Moorhead Area Vocational Technical Institute. Through all his work, Harold modeled integrity, dedication, and the value of lifelong learning.
Throughout their life together, Harold and Betty made their homes in St. Paul, Prior Lake, and Pelican Rapids, MN. Upon retirement, they settled at their peaceful lake home on the shores of West and East Silent Lakes near Dent, MN, where Harold found joy in the beauty of nature. He spent his time gardening, fishing, deer hunting, wood carving, and studying family genealogy.
Harold’s grandchildren adored him. He always had an adventure planned from driving his truck, woodworking in the garage, exploring the woods, attending the Perham Fair, treasure hunting at garage sales, and carving names into pumpkins. Each grandchild made a special visit with him in his final days, a testament to the love he shared with each of them.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Daisy (Bugbee) Miller; and siblings: Bruce (Romayne) Harrington, Darrell (Doris) Miller, Dale Miller, Rollis (Luella) Miller, Clarence (Joanne) Miller, and Arlene (Stanley) Jensen.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty (Schwanke) Miller; his children: Michael (Pamela) Miller, Deborah (Bill) Loberg, Daniel Miller, and Sandy (Mike) Evenson; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Harold’s life was one of purpose, love, and faith. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
