Glenn Davis Nelson, 77, of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, passed away on May 28, 2026.

Glen was born on January 27, 1949, in Pelican, Minnesota, to Neil Byron Nelson and Edna Josephine (Ness) Nelson. He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1967. On June 20, 1968, Glen was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving until his honorable discharge as an E-5 on January 22, 1970.

Glen was a hard worker his whole life. He got his start at the Greene's Hatchery, then learned the plumbing and heating trade at Engebretson Plumbing & Heating, which gave him the know-how to open his own business, Nelson Plumbing & Heating. After that, he spent nearly 30 years carrying the mail for the U.S. Postal Service, a job that suited a man who liked knowing everybody in town.

Glen gave a lot back to his community, too. He proudly served as Commander of the local VFW and was a dedicated member of the Fire Department for 22 years, always ready to step up and lend a hand.

And Glen did have his routine. Most mornings started at the post office to grab his mail, then over to the pool hall for a cup of coffee and to catch up on all the news with his pool hall gang. From there he would take a drive around town, rolling past his siblings’ homes, sometimes stopping in and sometimes just waving as he went by. That was Glen.

His favorite part of any day, though, was heading out to Eric and Rhonda’s. He had a real soft spot for their pets, Jessie, Riley, Thor, and Copper, who he affectionately called “Poopy.” Glen made sure every one of them was fed and never ran short on treats. He would crack open a few beers and wait for everybody to get home from their busy days, always wanting to hear how things had gone.

More than anything, Glen loved his family and the time he got to spend with his grandkids. He liked to bowl, golfed in his younger years, and never lost his love of deer hunting. You could usually count on finding him in front of the TV for a Vikings game or some golf.

Glen is survived by his son, Eric (Rhonda); his grandchildren, Ramsey (and his fiancée, Shauntel), Brock, and Brooklyn; his siblings, Stan (Carolyn), Byron (Patty), Yvonne Wells, Leroy, Gail (Randy) Narveson, and Lita; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Edna; his brothers Duane, Winton, Denny, and Mark; his sisters Ruthie and Karen; and his sister-in-law, Josephine.
