Evangeline Harriet (Ohe) Bakken, age 92, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Riverfront on Main. Evangeline Harriet Ohe was born on October 25, 1927 near Rothsay, MN, the daughter of Ingard and Gertie (Halbakken) Ohe. Evangeline was baptized and confirmed at South Immanuel Lutheran Church near Rothsay. She later graduated from Pelican Rapids High School. One evening Vangie met Douglas Bakken at a Luther League gathering. They later were married on October 30, 1946 near Rothsay. After their marriage they continued to farm until his retirement in 1995, when they moved into Pelican Rapids. During the years on the farm, Douglas’s mother, Amelia (Seidel) Bakken, lived with the family and for a period-of-time Evangeline took care of her. Douglas died on October 12, 2002. In 2015 Evangeline moved into the Riverfront on Main. She was an active member of Grove Lake Lutheran Church. Vangie was in ladies aid, church circle and taught Sunday School. Family was very important to Evangeline and the entire family would have gatherings on a regular basis. Vangie enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, and baking, especially bread. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Grove Lake Lutheran Church, Grove Lake Cemetery, Knute Nelson Hospice or donor’s choice. Vangie is survived by her children: Barbara (Michael) Payton, Charlotte, NC, Laurie (Curt) Buck, Wayne (Pam) Bakken, Craig (Karen) Bakken, and Kevin (Lori) Bakken, all of Pelican Rapids; 13 grandchildren: Cindy Payton, Brian (Megan) Payton, Julie Payton, Trevor Bakken, Jenna (Brian) Clark, Melissa Bakken, Emily Bakken, Brandon (Dorothy) Bakken, Ryan Bakken, Tyler Bakken, Josh Bakken, Sam (Chelsey) Buck, and Andrew Buck; 3 great-grandchildren: Carter & Harper Payton, and Cooper Clark; brother: Gerald (Arlys) Ohe, Moorhead, MN, sister: Kathryn Huseby, Moorhead, MN; sister-in-law Doris Ohe; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant daughter Diane Kay; brothers, Dennis and Ron Ohe. Visitation: Saturday, September 19, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN. Facemasks are required. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Immediate Family Only will be allowed in church, other attendees can listen from parking lot by tuning into 87.9 FM.
