Pelican Rapids

Ervin Willard Ohman, age 89, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Ervin was born on August 23, 1933, to Helmer “Shorty” and Elva (Drayton) Ohman in a log cabin in what later has become Maplewood State Park.  He grew up on a dairy farm east of Stony Bar on Lake Lida in rural Pelican Rapids area.  He attended the Brown Country School, District 189 that was in Maplewood State Park.  He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1951.  He attended Coyne Electrical TV and Radio School in Chicago, IL.  He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1953 and honorably discharged in 1957 as a staff Sargent.  He served in New York, Mississippi, Texas, Virginia, England and Germany in a special communication group. 

He married Hilary Taylor in 1956 and later divorced, to this union two children were born; Donna and Tom.  For a couple years he worked as a radio and TV tech.  Erv then owned and operated Erv’s TV until 2003.  In 1963, he started working at the US Post Office in Pelican Rapids as a sub carrier, then as a postal clerk retiring in 1989. 

In 1975, he married Iris Hart at Faith Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, MN.  With love, their families blended together as one. 

They enjoyed traveling by motorhome and have been in every US state and all the Canadian Provinces.  The year of his retirement they spent the whole summer in Alaska.  Erv also enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycle.  One of his favorite things was living on Prairie Lake and catching fish to host a fish fry for all of the family and friends.  He was a member of the Pelican Rapids American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, the Jaycees, and the Lions Club. 

Ervin is survived by his wife Iris of Pelican Rapids, MN, children: Donna (Joe) Bihner of Davis, IL and their children Andrew, and Sara (Ethan) Luebbering and son Wade; Tom (Lynn) Ohman of Frazee, MN and their children Cassi (Kory Swanson) and their children Cayson Ohman, Brooks Swanson, and Thomas Ohman; Mike (Jeannine) Hart of Dent, MN, and his children Jessica (Rick Trupka) Hart and their son Dustin, Joshua Hart, and great grandson Tahren Peterson; Tim (Cindy) Hart of Pelican Rapids, MN, and their children Andria (Erik Johnson) Hart and their children Kirra and Braxton, Gavin (Lacena) Hart, Preston and Hayden; Pete (Debbie) Hart of Dent, MN, and their children Spencer (Clare) Hart and their son Jacob, and Chelsey (Taylor Krause); daughters of Patrick (Tara Hendricks) Hart of Frazee, MN, Debbie Svobodny and daughter Ingrid, Victoria (Mike) Anderson and their children Emmytt Kitterling and Hartley, Tabiatha (Dylan) Branden and their children Madillyn, Audrenna and Johannah; Cheyanne Hart, Emily (Gabriel) Garza and their children Amoraliyah, Alessandro, and Andres; and one sister Ilene Larson of Bullhead City, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.    

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Patrick “Rick” Hart, grandson Dustin Hart, sister Lila Harriss.   

 

Celebration of Life: 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2023 at Larson Funeral Home in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m.
