Carol Lucille Ness

Carol’s friends and relatives are invited to a Celebration of Life Gathering on July 15th, 2020. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., with outdoor Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Erhard, Minnesota with Pastor Brad Soenksen officiating. Luncheon provided, following the service. Carol (Johnson) Ness, age 88, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Monday, March 23rd, 2020, at her residence. Carol Lucille was born July 15th, 1931, on the family farm close to Lucca, ND. She was the youngest child of Axel & Martha (Hansen) Johnson. She attended Lucca School. She grew up in a musical family. When she was seven years old, she started piano lessons. At the same age she sang over the radio waves from KVOC Valley City every Saturday morning. Her family moved in 1943 to south Fargo and she went to school there. She worked at Newberrys and also DeLaundracies as a salesclerk. In 1948 she was enrolled at Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. On October 22, 1949, Carol was united in marriage to Donovan Ness. They farmed near Comstock, MN for two years. In 1952 they moved to St. Louis Park. They also resided in Watertown, SD and north Fargo, ND. They lived in south Moorhead from 1955 until they moved to Omaha, NE in 1971. Carol nannied for a family of five children during the early 1970’s. She worked at Omaha Steaks International for 3 years in the sales office. Carol also sold clothing at Brandeis Department Store. In 1991, Don & Carol retired to Lake Lida in Minnesota. They purchased their home in Pelican Rapids in 1999. Carol was a member of the Wolverton Lutheran Church, Golden Valley Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Lutheran Church of the Master in Omaha, NE, Assembly of God and Baptist Churches of Pelican Rapids, and Grace Lutheran Church of Erhard. Carol exceedingly loved and enjoyed her family. Her whole life revolved around them. She is immensely missed! She loved to play the piano and was known for her ability. She enjoyed playing at nursing homes and churches in the area. Carol is survived by her husband Donovan; five children: Paul (Diane) Ness of Circle Pines, MN, David Ness M.D. of Minneapolis, MN, Randall (Patricia) Ness of Springfield, NE, Crystal (Terry) Thompson of Murphy, TX, and Timothy (Becky) Ness of Alexandria, MN; eleven grandchildren: Kristen Nielsen, Michael and Brian Ness, Megan Herrmann, Trevor and Kyle and Luke Thompson, Melanie Skinner, Blake and Elijah and Camden Ness; and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Bernice Griffin, Evelyn Wolters and Marion Wadeson; three brothers: Alton and Vernon and Harold Johnson; son Douglas Ness; and grandsons: Austin and Nathaniel Ness.
