Betty Kay Erickson

January 30, 1932 — January 24, 2022

Betty Kay (Logan) Erickson, age 89, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Monday, January 24, 2022, six days shy of her 90th birthday at her son-in-law, Steve Bergquist’s home near Pelican Rapids.

Betty Kay Erickson was born on January 30, 1932 in Pelican Rapids, MN, the daughter of James and Margaret (Damschen) Logan.  She was confirmed at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church and later graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1950.

On July 29, 1950 she married Arnold Erickson at the Pelican Valley Lutheran Church.  They farmed for a year and then moved to Detroit Lakes for a short time before returning to Pelican Rapids where they continued to farm.  Betty worked at West Central Turkey plant in the shipping department from 1965-1972.  Following this she worked at the Holiday Inn in Detroit Lakes as an assistant housekeeper from 1975-1977.  In 1983 she and her husband moved to Lake Lida where they enjoyed life on the lake.  It was shortly after this that Arnie and Betty became the custodians at Trinity Lutheran Church.  They took great pride in their work and were greatly appreciated by the congregation.  Both retired in 2003.  In 1998 Betty and Arnie left the lake and moved into Pelican Rapids.  Betty continued to remain busy by cleaning homes of families in the Pelican area.

Betty was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Circle Bible Study and work groups.  She also served the community by delivering Meals on Wheels.

Betty liked walking, doing word puzzles, and caring for her plants.  She loved to watch the birds, especially the cardinals, as well as the deer and turkeys which often visited her backyard.  Later on in life she adopted her kitty, “Snickers” who was great company for her.  Betty always enjoyed her close friends and the trips they shared together.  But her greatest love and enjoyment was her family.  Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all very special to her.  Her bright smile and warm hugs will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret Logan, her husband Arnold, a son Arlan, daughter Beth Bergquist, three sisters, Dorothy Stafford, Margaret Horstman, Muriel Bruns, and one brother Jay Logan.

She is survived by two children: Irvin (Joan) of Mora, and Everett (Rae) of Pelican Rapids; son-in-law Steve Bergquist, Pelican Rapids.  In addition, she is survived by ten grandchildren: Michael (Nichole) Erickson, Brenda (Jesse) Radloff, Douglas (Jill) Bergquist, Gerry (Jennifer) Bergquist, Sarah (Marvin) Vareberg, Shawn Erickson, Kelly (Jeff) Davis, Aaron (Nicole) Leininger, Andrea (Greg Brummer) Erickson, and Nicholas (Manda) Erickson; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
