Arlene Tweeton, age 91, died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Eventide in Moorhead, Minnesota. Arlene Eleanor (Ness) Tweeton was born on November 1, 1933, to Norman Oliver and Evelyn Juliet (Nelson) Ness at the Ness farm in Tansem Township, Clay County, Minnesota. She attended rural country school and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School.
Arlene was united in marriage to Leon Wallace Tweeton on September 27, 1952, in North Immanuel Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they lived on the Tweeton home farm in Lida Township which they later purchased from Leon’s parents. In addition to helping Leon on the farm and raising their family, Arlene worked as a bookkeeper for a variety of businesses until retiring in 2015 from Tweeton Construction working with her son Wesley and grandson Brandon. She served as Lida Township Clerk for 9 years, was active with her family in 4-H and Farmers Club, as well as being active at Trinity Lutheran Church.
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, playing the organ, sewing, making loomed rugs, and playing cards and baking with her grandchildren. Arlene’s potato lefse was legendary, and she graciously shared this talent with the next generations. In 1994, Arlene and Leon sold the farm and moved to their home in Pelican Rapids where they enjoyed looking out over the Pelican River and tending to their numerous flower beds.
Arlene is survived by her children, Elaine (Rob) Fick, Moorhead, MN; Eloise (Paul) Carter, Moorhead, MN; Wesley (Joan) Tweeton, Pelican Rapids, MN; Bruce (Lori) Tweeton, Center Point, IA; and Wayne (Sue) Tweeton, Marion, IA. Surviving grandchildren include: Melissa (Eric) Olson; Jayleen (Leonard) Schell; Melaina (Nick) Maloney; Deanna Thomas; Shane (Shariene) Carter; Kristoffer (Melissa) Carter; Paul Carter; Brandon (Amanda) Tweeton; Kelly (Kristen) Tweeton; Leslie (Luke) Behaunek; Landon (Kelsey) Tweeton; Miranda Tweeton; and Michaela Tweeton, many nieces and nephews.
