Allen Alfred Kuvaas passed away at his home, June 12, 2023, after a long battle with multiple illnesses.
Born in Moorhead, MN, on August 20th, 1943, Allen was the youngest of seven children, raised on a farmstead outside Perley, MN to Alfred and Annie (Klusmann) Kuvaas. He attended Mayville State Teacher’s College, (AKA “Little Harvard on the Prairie”) majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Math; he also played on their football team, and was a member of the wrestling team. He met Carol Margaret Jacobson at a party on New Years’ Eve, 1970, and they were married in rural Kenmare, ND, on August 12th, 1972. He became a science and math teacher, first at Glenfield, ND, and then at Wheaton, MN, where he was the head coach of the school’s successful wrestling program from 1971-1985. In 1976, the wrestling team won the district championship under his direction. Al and his family later moved to Pelican Rapids, MN; where he worked as a financial planner for Thrivent for 33 years. He was a devout Christian, and an avid fisherman and deer hunter.
He is survived by his loving wife Carol, his four sons: Michael (Laura), Jay (Stephanie), Erik (Kayla), and Nicholas (Kayla); five grandchildren: Maggie, Grace, Eloise, Soren, and Gus; one sister Velma Oakland; sister-in-law Terry Kuvaas; brothers-in-law: Allen, Gregory and Mark (Yukari) Jacobson; and nieces and nephews: Claire Schembri, Leslie Sherburne, and Duke, Dan, Doug (godson) and Darin Kuvaas; and lifetime friend Jim Milne.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Annie; five siblings: Donald Kuvaas, Beatrice Kuvaas, David Kuvaas, Allen Henry, Beverly Burano; two nephews Wayne Sherburne and Terry Oakland.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, June 19, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, MN with Alan Westby, SAM officiating. Burial will be at 3:15 at Bethania Lutheran Cemetery, Perley, MN.
Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Larson Funeral Home in Pelican Rapids, MN with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
