Leona Tingelstad

Leona Priem was born May 23, 1925, in Dunn Township near Vergas, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Johnson) Priem. She was baptized November 8, 1925, at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids, and was confirmed April 20, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church. She attended School District #149 in Dunn Township. On October 7, 1943, Leona married Milan Tingelstad in South Dakota. Leona was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. She served on the school board for District #167 and worked odd jobs, cleaning cabins, painting and staining. She also worked at the Graystone Hotel in Detroit Lakes. Her hobbies included sewing, flower gardening, picking raspberries and making maple syrup.Leona, age 82, a resident of rural Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at her home.She is survived by her husband, Milan; three sons: Gary (JoAnn) Tingelstad, Detroit Lakes, Roger (Sandy) Tingelstad, Pelican Rapids, and Harlan (Betty) Tingelstad, Pelican Rapids; one daughter, Cheryl Thorson, Erhard; 11 grandchildren: Dr. Kaare (Kim) Tingelstad, Londa (Doug) Johnson, Tina Anderson, Jeff (Kelly) Olson-Tingelstad, Teresa (Brad) Maczkowicz, Katie Bell, Laura (Al) Fowler, Kimberly Reiff, Jason (April) Thorson, Jessica (John) Kappes and Kathy (Bob) Krauth; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Early, Detroit Lakes; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Priem, Fergus Falls.Leona was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Myron; siblings: Gen Craft, Lillian Wischnak, Beverly Moreson, Delano Priem, Jerome Priem, Gordon Priem and two infant siblings; and one son-in-law, Marcus Thorson.
