Evelyn Haarstick, age 93, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Sunday, December 28, 2008, at Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.Wilma Evelyn Haarstick was born October 2, 1915, in rural Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of W.B. and Flora (Backstrom) Haarstick.She started school in District #54 in Fergus Falls Township.In 1925, she moved with her family to rural Erhard, Minnesota, where she attended school in District #17.She graduated from Pelican Raids High School in 1932, and Fergus Falls Teacher Training in 1935.From 1935-1949, Evelyn taught in Otter Tail County rural schools and the Village of Dalton.She graduated from St. Cloud State University with a two-year certificate in 1947, a BS degree in 1957, and a Masters degree in 1965.From 1949-1977, Evelyn was a teacher in District #277 in Mound, Minnesota, teaching mostly 6th grade, remedial reading and reading consultant.She was a Title 1, SLBP teacher and coordinator in both public and Our Lady of the Lake Schools the last ten years she taught.Evelyn moved back to Pelican Rapids in May 2004.She has been a resident of the Pelican Valley Nursing Home since November 2006.Evelyn enjoyed visiting family and friends.She traveled to parts of the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Hawaiian Islands, South America and Panama Canal.She loved to read, listen to music, hiking and cooking.She was active in several organizations: Camp Natch, Delta Kappa Gamma, church, Teachers retirement group, Archaeological Society, Senior Citizens of Mound, MN, and played in a kitchen band.Evelyn is survived by two brothers: Vernon (Bernice) Haarstick and Floyd Haarstick, Erhard, MN; one sister, Lorraine Ohe, Pelican Rapids, MN; sister-in-law, Arlene Haarstick, Vergas, MN; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Everett (Sonny), Gordon and Willard; sister, Irene.In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the donors choice.Blessed Be the Memory of Evelyn HaarstickEvelyn is
