Dorothy Lien

Dorothy Lien, age 86, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society in Pelican Rapids.Dorothy Ann Carlson was born July 10, 1922, on the family farm in Erhards Grove Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Helge N. and Jerutia (Elliott) Carlson.She was baptized and confirmed at Central Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids.Dorothy lived and helped on the family farm until 1964 when she and her mother moved into Pelican Rapids.From 1965-1975, Dorothy worked at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.She also worked at the Otter Tail County Sanatorium, Battle Lake, Minnesota; St. Lukes Hospital, Fergus Falls, Minnesota; St. Johns Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota; and Zierke Photo Studio, Pelican Rapids.On June 14, 1975, Dorothy was united in marriage to John Emmett Lien.They lived in St. Paul, Minnesota, until they retired in 1988 and then moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota.John died in October of 2002.In November of 2002, Dorothy entered the Good Samaritan Society.Dorothy loved Gospel music and singing with her brothers.She enjoyed painting and playing guitar.Her family meant much to her, especially spending time with her nieces and nephews.She was a member and involved in circle at Central Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, North Heights Lutheran Church, Arden Hills and Augustana Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls.Dorothy is survived by four brothers:Eugene Carlson, Pelican Rapids, MN; Harold (Melinda) Carlson, Pelican Rapids, MN; Richard (Alice) Carlson, Erhard, MN; Larry (Carol) Carlson, Pelican Rapids, MN; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and sister, Elizabeth Betty Ohman.Blessed Be the Memory of Dorothy Lien
