Gordon Sleen, age 80, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died suddenly on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.Gordon Duane Sleen was born February 15, 1929, at his family homestead in Erhards Grove Township, the son of Arnold and Gilma (Nettestad) Sleen.He grew up on the family farm and attended country school at District 146.While growing up, Gordy enjoyed hunting many kinds of animals, fishing and working on the farm.Gordy was united in marriage to Velma Jacobson on August 26, 1949, in Webster, South Dakota.They made their life in Dunn Township, Minnesota, and had three children; Carol, Kurt and Steve.He worked for Great Northern Railroad for approximately 10 years and then drove truck for Evenson Trucking until his retirement.Velma passed away in 1991.In his retirement years, he moved back on his familys homestead and spent much of his time on Lake Lida living the life of Gordys luxury.Gordy is survived by his three children:Carol (Jude) Par, Pelican Rapids, MN, Kurt (DeAnna) Sleen, Vergas, MN, and Steve (Marion) Sleen, Vergas, MN; eight grandchildren:Craig (Nicole), Keith (Jackie), James, Jordan (Ashley), Adam (Kathy), Vanessa, Wesley (Sheena), and Melissa (Tom); five great-grandchildren: Hannah, Hunter, Jasmine, Jaden and Jeremy; and two sisters:Nancy Johnson, Aurora, MN, and Joann (Alvin) Glawe, Vergas, MN; special friend Marilyn Bengston; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma; parents, Arnold and Gilma; and two sisters: Lula Erickson and Margie Lockwitzer.Thank you to all of Gordys special friends who helped look out for him, visited him, and took drives with him.Gordy will be greatly missed.In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Bagstevold Cemetery, Erhard, Minnesota.Blessed Be The Memory Of Gordon Sleen
