Arlin Johnson, age 71, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died Friday, November 6, 2009, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Arlin Marshall Johnson was born May 22, 1938, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, the son of Arthur E. and Melvina B. (Halvorson) Johnson.He was baptized and confirmed at Galchutt Lutheran Church in Galchutt, North Dakota.He graduated from Abercrombie High School in 1956.On August 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Marick at Galchutt Lutheran Church, in Galchutt, North Dakota.They made their home in Barnesville, Minnesota, from 19581973, where Arlin was employed by Red River Rural Telephone Company.From 1973-1974, they lived in Mandan, North Dakota, where he was a salesman for Ditch Witch Trenchers.In 1974, they moved to Pelican Rapids where he owned and operated Lakeland Properties Realty.In his retirement years, he drove bus for the Detroit Lakes School District.While in Barnesville, Arlin was active in the Jaycees, served on the church council of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, and was a city councilman.After his move to Pelican Rapids, Arlin was a member of the Lions, and the Rotary Club, in which he was a past president and a Paul Harris Fellow.Arlin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids.Arlin was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed attending high school sports, both for his children and grandchildren.He loved traveling, especially on weekend excursions with his wife, Mary Lou.Throughout his marriage, Arlin was a devoted and loving husband, as well as a generous caretaker. In the early years of his marriage, he assisted Mary Lou in caring for her younger siblings.It was not uncommon for Arlin to stop by and pick up Mary Lous young sisters, and bring them home for the weekend, where he and Mary Lou would get them haircuts, and take them clothes shopping.This generosity continued throughout his life to family members or others who needed his assistance.He was a constant source of encouragement and support to his children, and he will be greatly missed.Arlin is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; his children:Wade (Judi) Johnson, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Tracey (Brad) Lindberg, Breckenridge, MN; grandchildren:Paige Lindberg and Blaire Lindberg; brother, Donald (Cyndy) Johnson, Maple Grove, MN; cousins: Karen (Darrell) Wincek, Crystal, MN, and Richard (Donna) Nelson, Chesapeake, VA; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Melvina; and sister, Elaine Johnson.Blessed Be The Memory of Arlin Johnson
