Doris Sorum

Doris Sorum, age 90, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.Pearl Doris Irene Hermunslie was born November 24, 1919, in Abercrombie, North Dakota, the daughter of Fred and Inga (Rustvang) Hermunslie.After graduating from Abercrombie High School she attended Valley City Teachers College receiving a teaching certificate.On May 30, 1941, Doris was united in marriage to Merle Sorum.Doris furthered her education at Black Hills Teachers College and received her masters degree from Moorhead State.She taught school in Kent, MN, Wolverton, MN, Great Bend, ND, Max, ND, and Belle Fourche, SD; spending most of her career in teaching in the Fargo and Moorhead school districts.Doris retired in 1985 from Edison Elementary School in Moorhead.Merle preceded her in death in 1963.Doris entered Pelican Valley Nursing Home in May 2004.Doris liked to travel and quilt.She was active in church activities including choir, bible studies, and church circle.Doris was active in the Dakota Hospital Auxiliary, the Retired Teachers Association, and the Sons of Norway.Over the years she corresponded with, hosted, and in 1984 visited relatives in Norway.Doris is survived by her son, Charles (Mary) Sorum, Pelican Rapids, MN; 3 grandchildren:Matthew (Jenny) Sorum, Andrew (Margo) Sorum, and Kaia (Brandon) Rogers; 7 great-grandchildren:Brandon, Brady, Eli, Samuel, Jonah, Abigail, and Levi; sisters-in-law: Jeannette Hermunslie, Fargo, ND, and Pauline Stowman, Rothsay, MN; brother-in-law, Dean (Carol) Sorum, Moorhead, MN; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Inga; husband, Merle; brothers, Harold (Esther) and Arnold; sister, Florence (Maurice); and brother-in-law, Omar Stowman.Blessed Be The Memory of Doris Sorum
