Floyd Haarstick

Floyd Haarstick, age 81, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota died Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home.Floyd Roland Haarstick was born on May 3, 1929 to William and Flora (Backstrom) Haarstick at Erhard, Minnesota. He attended District # 17 near Erhard and later graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1947. He entered the United States Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War until his discharge in 1953.He farmed by rural Erhard raising Hereford cattle. Floyd married Violet Holmquist on September 29, 1962 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. He worked as a census taker in 1950, worked for the Department of Agriculture and was a rural mail carrier.Floyd retired from the Erhard post office on September 2, 1987.Vi passed away in 2000.Floyd enjoyed playing cards, visiting with people, fishing, and hunting.Floyd and Vi liked to travel to Florida, Arizona and Hawaii.Floyd was a member of Central Lutheran Church and an associate member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #5252 in Pelican Rapids and a member of the NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association).Preceded in death by his wife, Vi; his parents; sisters: Irene and Evelyn; brothers: Willard, Gordon, and Everett Sonny.He is survived by a brother Vernon (Bernice), Erhard, and sister Lorraine Ohe, Pelican Rapids and sister-in-law Arlene Haarstick, Vergas, and many nieces and nephews.Blessed Be The Memory of Floyd Haarstick
