John "Oliver" Moses

Oliver Moses, age 69, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Sunday, December 5, 2010, in the palliative care unit at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota.John Oliver Moses was born August 26, 1941, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the son of Norman and Iva (Kern) Moses.He was baptized and confirmed at Scambler Union Church in Pelican Rapids.Oliver graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1959.He served in the United States Army from 1959 - 1963.Oliver was united in marriage to Carol Herting on November 2, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids.They lived in Moorhead and Morris, Minnesota, for a short time and then moved back to Pelican Rapids in 1967 making it their permanent home.Oliver started working for the Minnesota Department of Transportation in October of 1967; he worked for them for 37 years before retiring in June of 2004.In addition, Oliver seasonally drove sugar beet trucks for over 20 years.Oliver enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, bird watching, and spending time with his family and friends.He was an active member of the Ottertail Masonic Lodge #284 in Pelican Rapids; he received the Hiram Award in October 2009.Oliver valued the friendship and service of his fellow Masons.He was also a member of Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Ducks Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever.His family and friends will remember him for his great ability to visit with anyone he met.He always had a story to share.Oliver is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol Moses, Pelican Rapids, MN; his daughters, Lisa (Keith) Vortherms, St. Louis Park, MN, and Lori (Kelly) OBrien, Pelican Rapids, MN; grandchildren: Rachel and Mitchell Vortherms; a sister, Norma Henriksen, Cyrus, MN; a sister-in-law, Irene Kohler, Brainerd, MN; in-laws, Phyllis and Lyle Haugrud, Pelican Rapids, MN, and Janet and Dewey Malikowsky, Horace, ND; and many nieces and nephews.Blessed BeThe Memory Of Oliver MosesHe was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Iva; and brothers, Ray and Loyal.
