Marlys Johnson, age 64, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society of Pelican Rapids under the care of Lakeland Hospice of Fergus Falls.Marlys Anne Quinn was born August 16, 1946, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of Earl and Agnes (St. Pierre) Quinn. She grew up on the family farm in Emmett Township, south of Beresford, South Dakota. She graduated from Alcester High School in 1964. Marlys attended South Dakota State University and General Beadle College (Dakota State University) graduating in 1968. On November 26, 1971, Marlys was united in marriage to Eric "Rick" Johnson at Emmett Church in rural Beresford. She taught physical education in Jackson, Minnesota, and Heron Lake, Minnesota, where she also coached girls basketball. Later, in 1978 she became Director of Community Education in Pelican Rapids and assistant coach for girls basketball. For the past twenty years she owned and operated Riverview Place in downtown Pelican Rapids.Marlys served on the Pelican Rapids Economic Development Committee for many years and she was an active member of the Oktoberfest committee. Marlys was an avid supporter and fan of Pelican Rapids baseball.Marlys is survived by her husband, Rick Johnson, Pelican Rapids, MN; son, Andrew (Gretchen Kuhl), Pelican Rapids, MN; foster son, Thomas (Ashley) Doan and their children, Brandon and Justin, San Jose, CA; sister, Lois (Ken) Lippmann, North Salem, NY; brother, Doug (Diane) Quinn, New Hampton, IA; mother-in-law, Gladys Johnson, Pelican Rapids, MN; brothers-in-law: Michael Johnson and Greg (Dawn) Johnson, both of Pelican Rapids, MN; and Brent (Stephanie) Johnson, Edina, MN; nephews: Kenneth (Sandy) Lippmann, Christopher (Rebecca) Lippmann, Ted (Jackie) Quinn, Adam (Sara) Johnson, Alex Johnson, and Dana Johnson; nieces: Tara (Mike) Fotsch, Jessica Quinn, Greta Johnson, and Maria Johnson.
