Donald LeRoy Sillerud

Donald LeRoy Sillerud, age 84, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Pelican Valley Nursing Home, Pelican Rapids.Donald was born on May 8, 1927 the son of Bennie and Clara (Osten) Sillerud in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. He attended Pelican Rapids High School. Donald was a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Army from September, 1945 to April, 1947. In l949 he graduated from Hanson Mechanical School in Fargo, ND. Donald lived in Chicago, Illinois in 1950 and from 1951until 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa. He owned and operated Don's Auto Service in Pelican Rapids for 44 years.On August 25, l961 Donald was united in marriage to Joyce Anne (Johnson) Sillerud at North Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.He was a life long member of the North Immanuel Lutheran Church serving as treasurer and secretary of the council. He was also a member of the Pelican Rapids Chamber of Commerce and a lifetime member and Post Commander of the V.F.W. Post #5252 in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.His hobbies were his race car and drag racing, hunting, music, playing his banjo, mandolin and guitar.Donald is survived by his wife, Joyce; children: Jon (Nora) Sillerud, Orono, MN and Julie (Keith) Lane, Aurora, CO; grandson: Brett Sillerud; sisters: Vivian (George) Dobrovolny, Buffalo Center, IA, Helen Ann (Harlan) Haugrud, Rothsay, MN and Marcelle Nelson, Pelican Rapids, MN.He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Clara; brothers: Byron, Jerome and Curtis Sillerud; sister: Eleanor Redal, Tacoma, WA.Visitation: Monday, February 13, 2012 from 5:00 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
