Kathleen Anne Winjum

Kathleen Anne Winjum, 76, of Barnesville, MN died Saturday, October 20, 2012 after a two month battle with pancreatic cancer. Kathleen Anne Winjum was born October, 17, 1936 in Thief River Falls, MN to Clarence and Frances (Johnson) Cook of Newfolden, MN. She was raised in Newfolden and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1954. Kathy attended Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing and graduated with her Registered Nursing degree in 1957. During the summer of 1953, she met her future husband James (Jim) Winjum while swimming at the Old Mill State Park. On August 21, 1957 Kathy married Jim at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN only three days after graduating from nurses training. Kathy and Jim made their home in Thief River Falls, MN where they lived for 36 years and raised three children Mary Kay, Danny and David. She was a devoted wife and mother, enjoyed being active in the community, was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and an active member of the Zehlians Club. They moved to Pelican Rapids, MN in 1993 where they lived for 10 years and moved to Barnesville, MN in 2003 where they spent their summers so they could be near their grandchildren and the lake. In 1997, they built a home in Scottsdale, AZ where they enjoyed spending the winters. Kathy enjoyed stopping in TX on the way to and from AZ to visit grandchildren. They recently celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary.Kathy especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, reading, attending book club and church circle and being with her family at Lake Lizzie. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and took great pleasure in attending their activities and was always interested in what they were doing. Kathy will lovingly be remembered by her husband, Jim Winjum; her daughter, Mary Kay, (John) Dagg and their children Thomas and Elizabeth of Argyle, TX; David (Gwen) Winjum and their children Mya and Garrett Winjum of Fargo, ND; brother, David (Monna) Cook of Anderson, IN and sister Barbara (Al) Krueger of Las Cruces, NM; sister-in-law Diane (John) Cunningham of Odessa, TX and many other family and friends.
