Norman Ruud, age 85, a resident of Pelican Rapids, MN, died on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Lake Region Hospital, Fergus Falls, MN. Norman Alfred Ruud was born January 7, 1928 in Pelican Rapids, the son of Oscar and Alma (Orpen) Ruud. He was baptized and confirmed at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church. From 1950-1952 he served in the Armed Forces. On June 12, 1965 Norman was united in marriage to Josephine Bartow in Fargo, North Dakota. He did mechanic work for 30 years, including Norm's Repair in Pelican Rapids. He also lived and worked in Denver, CO, Fond du Lac, WI, and Laramie, WY. He owned a coin shop in Laramie and later began a hobby of buying and selling coins. In l986 Norman and Jo retired to a hobby farm on Lake Crystal in Pelican Rapids, locating near the farm where he grew up. He especially enjoyed fishing and hunting. He took pride in his expansive lawn and his vegetable garden and orchard. Norman was interested in local history and had a collection of early photos as well as many stories. "Years ago," he'd say, then describe a situation or place. Norman is survived by his wife, Josephine, Pelican Rapids; stepson, Jerry (Jane) Bartow, Tucson, AZ; two grandchildren: Doug (Cara) Bartow, Chicago, IL, and Amanda (Chris) Storm, Lawrence, KS, and her two children, Lydia and Elliott; sisters: Alice Nelson, Pelican Rapids, and Agnes Borg, Pelican Rapids; sister-in-law, Lyla Ruud, Fremont, NE; nephew, Karl (Deb) Ruud, Lindsborg, KS; nieces: Karen Shuler, Omaha, NE, and Kris (Dave) Cameron, Bozeman, MT, and their families.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenneth, and his niece, Kathryn Nelson.Visitation: Friday, March 15, 2013, 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.Service: 11:00 a.m. - Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MNClergy: Pastor Laurie Skow-AndersonBurial: Pelican Valley Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, MN Military Honors: V.F.W.
