Floyd Buerkley

Floyd Buerkley, age 84, a resident of Pelican Rapids, MN, died on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Floyd Buerkley was born October 13, 1928 at the family farm outside of Kulm, North Dakota, to Fred and Christine Buerkley. He attended grade school in Kulm where he met his future wife, Lois. They were married in 1954 and lived on the farm until moving to Fargo the fall of 1955. He graduated from Dakota Business College in 1956 and joined the City Assessor's office in Fargo, ND, as an appraiser trainee. He was promoted to City Assessor in 1976 and president of North Central Regional Association of Assessing Officers in 1987. He retired after 35 years in 1991 to care for his wife who was battling early on-set Alzheimer's at their lake home on Prairie Lake. Floyd enjoyed traveling, spending time fishing, hunting and gardening. You could always find him in the bleachers at all his children's sporting events or watching a sporting event on television. His true joy came from the time spent with his wife, Lois, of 55 years and his family at their lake home. He will always be remembered for the love and devotion to his family and the kindness he showed everyone he met.Floyd will be deeply missed by his three children: Mitch (Shelly) Buerkley, Fargo, ND, Mike (Ann) Buerkley, Fargo, ND, and Amy Buerkley, Bloomington, MN; grandchildren: Ashley, Joshua, Aaron (Ashley), Denyse, Jessica, Lucas, Grace and Garrett; three brothers: Herbert (Alice), Palmer (Ella) and Fred (Sophia) all of Kulm, ND; and two sisters: Vivian Haefner, Kulm, ND, and Marilyn (Howard) Weiler, Detroit Lakes, MN.Floyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois, who died in 2010; one child in infancy, Fredrick Wayne, and one stillborn daughter, Mary Katherine; his parents: Fred and Christine; his brother, Robert, and sister, Lucille; three brothers-in-law: Edwin Heidinger, Howard Haefner and Melvin Walker.Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at Faith Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN.Clergy: Pastor Roger RotvoldFuneral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
