Louise Rostad

November 24, 1927 — August 19, 2013

Louise Rostad, age 85, peacefully passed away August 19 at Augustana Care in Minneapolis, a Lutheran nursing home near the Metrodome where she had been an Alzheimer's patient for a number of years. She initially lived in Augustana's assisted living apartments after her move to Minneapolis in 1999. Louise Jeanette Hanson was born November 24th, 1927, the daughter of Roy and Clara (Olson) Hanson in Pelican Rapids. She was baptized and confirmed in Pelican Valley Lutheran Church and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1945. For a time during WWII she worked with Clarence Boe delivering milk. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead in 1946, where she studied art with Cyrus Running. Working in the office at the Pelican creamery a couple years later, she met her husband Wilford Rostad, who was driving truck for dairy farmers. They were married at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church June 5, 1948. They lived in Pelican Rapids until 1994 when Wilford died. Louise then moved to a town home in Pelican Rapids for 5 years before her move to Minneapolis. For over 17 years, she worked at Trinity Lutheran Church as church secretary. Louise was committed to a faithful life filled with much love, despite the challenges and difficulties to be faced. She gave her children a rich legacy of care and expressed her concern for others in so many thoughtful and special ways. Her lively laugh and smile showed her wholehearted enjoyment of people, brought out their best, and expressed her generous and welcoming hospitality. Her sense of humor put everyone at ease. Her deep appreciation and sincere interest in her extended family, friends, neighbors and community brought much light into their lives, especially in times of crisis.She enjoyed playing the old upright piano and singing popular songs to her family's delight. She sang in the church choir for many years. She participated in maintaining the large family vegetable garden and was known for her dill and watermelon pickles. Louise was a Minnesota Vikings / Twins fan and dedicated PRHS Vikings fan - including the girls basketball team 1977 - 79. She had a love for nature, and would exclaim in wonder driving through the colored autumn leaves or catching the view of a stunning sunset. She painted landscapes and drew cartoon greeting cards in her early years and enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles in her later years. Louise is survived by her four children Larry Rostad, Barb Rostad (Bob Litke), Dale Rostad, (Staney) all the from the Minneapolis area, and Dennis Rostad (Lorrie) from Little Rock, Arkansas, six grandchildren, twins Shannon and Danielle (Denny's), Grant, twins Mitch and Mickey (Dale's), and Heather (Barb's), sisters Edna Carlson (Gust) and Nell Sponheim (Paul), her brother Robert Hanson (Jane) all from St. Paul. Preceding her in death were her sister Lillian Kuhn (Bill) and her brother Ivan (Dorothy).
