Shirley Aaser

Shirley Aaser, age 82, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 under the care of Red River Valley Hospice at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND Shirley D. (Bakke) Aaser, daughter of Samuel and Denella (Urvand) Bakke, was born at home in Nelson County, North Dakota, on August 18, 1931. She grew up near McVille and graduated from McVille High School. She married Leo O. Aaser on June 12, 1949 in Michigan, North Dakota. They lived in several towns in North Dakota while Leo worked on the REA. Then they made their home in Moorhead, Minnesota for over 40 years.Shirley worked as a seamstress for many years. She made custom draperies for Simons Furniture until they closed. Then she worked at Wright Awning, until she retired in September 1993. Shirley and her late husband, Leo, were very involved in archery for many years. Shirley enjoyed doing ceramics and created many beautiful figurines. Shirley and Leo moved to their retirement home they built on Lake Lida near Pelican Rapids. Shirley loved tending to her flowers and watching birds visit her many bird feeders that Leo built. She kept a bird book close by to look up any unrecognizable birds that came to feed. Over the years Shirley and Leo had many fun-filled evenings playing Pinochle with their friends. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church on Franklin Lake. Shirley was survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Merle) Earley, Detroit Lakes, MN, son, Rodney (Melanie) Aaser, West Fargo, ND; five Grandchildren, Shawn Earley, Shannan (Rachel) Earley, Carmen (Jason) Sivers, Lisa Aaser-Boeder, Matthew (girlfriend Sheena Williams) Aaser and Six Great-grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and stepfather, Joe Dolejsi.Visitation: Monday, October 7, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
