Glenda Mavis Bengtson

Glenda Mavis Grefsrud was born on March 8, 1932 to Gustav Helmer Grefsrud and Martina (Bratlien) Grefsrud in Hawley, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Park Lutheran Church. She attended Country School Dist 109 through 8th grade, then high school in Lake Park and Hitterdal, MN. She was a graduate of Moorhead State Teachers College and taught school in Pelican Rapids for three years. She married David Oscar Bengtson on December 23, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, MN. The spring of 1956 they moved to California where they lived for over a year. She was a mother and homemaker raising her family. They moved back to Pelican Rapids in 1958 where Glenda continued her duties of homemaker, and David worked in his auto garage. Glenda loved to do Norwegian Hardanger and was also an excellent seamstress. Playing the piano was a favorite pastime. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She enjoyed her time outdoors in the vegetable and flower gardens. Glenda Bengtson, 82, died at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids, MN on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, David of Pelican Rapids, MN, three children: Dean (Kathy) Bengtson of Victoria, TX, Keith (Cole) Bengtson of Pelican Rapids, MN, and Yvette (Jeff) Martin of Huntsville, AL, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and four siblings: Ardell (Robert) Nelson, of Helena, MT, Lorraine Grefsrud of Fargo, ND, Ardean (Adele) Grefsrud of Cascade, ID, Wanda (Carl) Erickson of Hawley, MN, Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings: Myrtle Olson, Mamie Peterson, Raymond Grefsrud, Orvald Grefsrud, Norris Grefsrud, Thelma Peterson, Vernon Grefsrud, and Earl Grefsrud. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 26 at Central Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids, MN with Pastor Phillip Tobin officiating.
