Lorraine Ohe

Lorraine Gloria Ohe was born March 12, 1925 to William and Flora (Backstrom) Haarstick in Fergus Falls Township. When she was a few months old her family moved to a farm east of Erhard, MN where she grew up, attending rural school District #17 and graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1943. After graduation she worked at the Creamery in Pelican Rapids. On May 4, 1947 she married Orris Ohe at the Ringsaker parsonage in Pelican Rapids. They farmed at rural Rothsay until 1983 when they moved to Pelican Rapids. Lorraine worked as a baker at the Rothsay Truck Stop, a bookkeeper at the Erhard Creamery, and church secretary for South Immanuel Lutheran Church for over 40 years.Lorraine was the Community Food Shelf coordinator for 14 years, Lifetime member of American Legion Post #17 and V.F.W. Post #5252, member of the Multicultural Committee, Good Samaritan Auxiliary, Hospice Volunteer for 17 years, 4-H leader, and participated in the Pelican Rapids Crop Walk. She was a member of South Immanuel Lutheran Church active in the circle, ladies aid, treasurer and Thrivent. She was crowned Mrs. Octoberfest for 2002, received Volunteer of the Year in 2001 from the Multicultural Committee and in 2003 the P.R.I.D.E. Award from the Chamber of Commerce, Pelican Rapids. She enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing crafts, knitting, making quilts and baking, especially doughnuts. One special highlight of her life was a trip to Sweden in 2002 to visit relatives. Lorraine Gloria Ohe, age 89, Pelican Rapids, MN, formerly of Rothsay, MN died Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Pelican Valley Health Center Nursing Home, Pelican Rapids, MN. Lorraine is survived by two daughters, Judy (Paul) Tabbut, Pelican Rapids, MN; Beverly (Schuyler Crane) Oh, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and son Orland (Mary) Ohe, Rothsay, MN; five grandchildren, Allison, Landon, and Marshall Ohe and Angela and Lauren Toelle; great-grandson Cash McPhedran; sister-in-laws Bernice Haarstick, Erhard, MN; Arlene Haarstick, Vergas, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orris (1995), brothers, Willard, Everett "Sonny", Gordon, Vernon and Floyd and sisters Irene and Evelyn.The family requests that memorials be made to the charity or organization of choice in honor of Lorraine's years of volunteer service.Visitation: Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
