Betty Louise Petkewick

Betty Louise Petkewick, age 81, a resident of the Pelican Valley Nursing Home, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014.Born Betty Louise Renis on June 6, 1933, in Morton Grove, IL, to Edward and Alma Renis, she attended school in Morton Grove, moved to Dent, Minn., in 1970, and lived there and in Pelican Rapids for the rest of her life.Betty met Richard Petkewick, a seaman in the U.S. Navy, on a blind date and they were married on June 28, 1952. She worked at HM Harper in Chicago, and, after her daughter was born, she sold Avon. Betty and Richard moved to Minnesota where they owned and ran a resort in Dent for 17 years. After selling the resort in 1989, they moved to Pelican Rapids. Betty loved people. She enjoyed reading, playing games, and being at the lake. She took a special joy in her visitors and guests, and always had a pot of coffee at the ready. Friends and neighbors knew they would find a warm welcome and good conversation whenever they would drop by the resort's store.Betty was a member of the Garden Club, Ladies' Aide and was a Red Hatter. She is survived by her daughter, Tonya Gunstenson, of Minnetonka, Minn., two granddaughters, Tara and Megan, brother Lee Renis, and 5 nieces, Deb, Kim, Holly, Lisa, and Amy.Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, and brother Harold Renis.Informal memorial service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Pelican Valley Nursing Home.
