Marian Bakken

Marian Bakken, age 89, a resident of Pelican Rapids, MN died on October 21, 2014 under the loving care of Pelican Valley Health Center and Red River Valley Hospice.Marian was born May 19, 1925 and raised by her mother, Melia (Johnson) Ishaug. She was baptized and confirmed at North Immanuel Lutheran Church near Pelican Rapids. In 1943 Marian graduated from Pelican Rapids High School. On June 18, 1943 Marian was united in marriage to Erwin Bakken in the church parsonage in Pelican Rapids. After their marriage the couple farmed on the Al Meland farm near Erhard, Minnesota until moving to Scambler Township in 1949 where they continued to farm until 1988. At that time they moved into Pelican Rapids and their sons, Steve and Paul, took over farming. Marian raised a large family and was a hard-working farm wife who loved to cook and clean for her entire family. Erwin died on July 23, 2001.Marian was a lifetime member of Grove Lake Lutheran Church where she was an active member in her circle and WELCA. For many years she cooked the soup for the Grove Lake Bazaar using her own kettles. Marian had numerous recipes that will remain in the family for many generations. Marian was a 4-H leader for Grove Lake which her whole family took part in. Marian and Erwin spent 20 winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. Marian enjoyed quilting, embroidering, needlepoint, gardening, and canning. She took great joy in giving all of her grandchildren some embroidery or needlepoint work.Marian is survived by her daughter, Karen (Gary) Hart, Pelican Rapids; three sons: Roger (Phyllis) Bakken, Oakdale, MN, Steve (Diane) Bakken, Pelican Rapids, Paul (Tammy) Bakken, Pelican Rapids; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren: Michele (Chad) Pundsack with daughter, Sophie; Michael (Amy) Hart with son, Jesse; Greg (Cathy) Bakken with children: Devon and Haley; Jeff (Kirsten) Bakken with children: Jack, Charlie, and Andy; Darin (Lisa) Bakken with children: Spenser, Seth, and Olivia; Jennifer (Gerry) Bergquist with children: Olivia, Holly and Jack; Lucas (Liz) Bakken with children: Ean and Cayden; Mason Bakken and their mother, Linda; Jared (Christine) Bungum with children: Tori, Erin, Lexi; Greta (Bob) Backstrom with children Abby and Reed; Jeremy (Sarah) Lovik; Amelia (Mark) Indvik with children MyKenna, Brayden and Jaxson; Julia Bakken; and their mother Becky; Alin Bakken; and Cris Bakken; brother, Donald (Ila Mae) Ishaug, Pelican Rapids; sister-in-law, Evangeline Bakken, Pelican Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erwin; son, Richard; brother-in-law, Douglas.Visitation: Friday, October 24, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at Grove Lake Lutheran Church.Service: 10:30 a.m., Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Clergy: Pastor Jeff McCrackenBurial: Grove Lake Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Funeral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
