James "Jim" Norton Perrin

January 24, 1935 — February 17, 2015

James Norton Perrin, Sr. passed away at home on Tuesday, February 17, under the care of hospice, surrounded by family at the age of 80. James (Jim) was born on January 24, 1935 to William and Trilla (Grimes) Perrin in Sturgis, Michigan. He attended school in Centreville, Michigan, graduating in 1952.Jim married Vonda Kane on September 27, 1952 in Sturgis, Michigan. He purchased a milk truck route and a small dairy farm in 1952 near Sturgis. In 1958, they sold their milk truck route and dairy farm and moved their family to Minnesota after purchasing a dairy farm south of Pelican Rapids. After milking cows for several years, he sold his dairy cattle and in 1964 started working for 7-Up Bottling in Fergus Falls as a salesman. In 1968, he purchased dairy cattle and with the help of his family started milking again, while continuing to work for Coca Cola Bottling. He started a carpet cleaning business in 1971, which he did part time for seven years while farming and working at the Coca Cola plant. Following in his father's footsteps, he started buying and developing lake shore, hunting land and residential property in 1972 and continued until 2012. Over the years he developed lake shore on West Silent, Crystal, Middle Cormorant, Big Pine, Long, and Portage lakes, as well as on Ottertail River. He developed hunting land by Henning, plotted lots on a large tree farm south of Erhard, and residential lots in Ottertail. He enjoyed building log cabins on some of the land he purchased. The last cabin he built was for his family on Long Lake by Vergas where many summers were enjoyed by his family and extended family. From 1984 to 1990, he sold used cars in Pelican Rapids and Fergus Falls. In 1990, with his son James, he purchased F&M Plastics in Fergus Falls (a plastics injected molding company). After a few years he bought his son's portion of the business and eventually sold F&M Plastics in 2001, at which time he retired.Jim enjoyed farming, developing property, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Vonda and seven children; Don Perrin of Pelican Rapids, with his children Sally and Sam, Diane (Steve) Case of Robbinsdale, MN, with their children Jamey (Sharon) Jacobson, Christopher (Yvette) Jacobson, Lance, Connor, and Molly; James (Kay) Perrin of Pelican Rapids, with their children Justin (Amy) Perrin and Jenna (Micah) Kvidt; Robert (Janis) Perrin of Pelican Rapids, with their children Annie (Ryan) Hagen and Dana (Casey) Perrin; Christine (Ron) Rohr of Cannon Falls, MN, with their children Holly, Samuel, and Timothy; Patricia Erickson of Pelican Rapids, with her children Alishia (Tony) Anderson and Kelly (Darin) Roehl; Cathryn (Tom) Grosskreutz of Fergus Falls, with their children Amy (Abe) Robertson, Megan, and Sierra; 11 great grandchildren: Josie and Amelia Jacobson, Jett Jacobson, Callen and Kylee Perrin, Ava and Mason Hagen, Jace, Jada, and Jackson Anderson, Emma Roehl, and his brother Norman (Lois) Perrin of Ashby, MN.He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Trilla, and infant sister Norma.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Red River Valley Hospice or Pelican Valley Nursing Home.Visitation: Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m.at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
