Ardis Ocell Ottoson

Ardis Ottoson, age 83, of Pelican Rapids, MN, went home to be with the Lord on February 17, 2015 at Pelican Valley Nursing Center in Pelican Rapids.Ardis Ocell Sherbrooke was born November 14, 1931 in Pelican Rapids, MN, to George and Hannah (Kringen) Sherbrooke, the second youngest of seven children. She attended school in Pelican Rapids, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1950.Following her graduation Ardis worked as a clerk at Carr & Hanson's Department Store in Pelican Rapids. On November 16, 1951 Ardis committed her life to Jesus Christ. Noticing the change in her life from this experience, her father remarked, "I'd give a million dollars to have what Ardis has now."On June 25, 1954 Ardis married Dennis Ottoson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. They lived in Abercrombie, ND from September 1954 to June 1955 where Dennis was a teacher and a superintendent of Public Schools. On July 4, 1955 Danny Dennis was born and in September the family moved to Hoffman, MN where Dennis taught English and History. Dennis passed away on May 13, 1956. Through the years, Ardis would often mention that she was married at the age of 22, had a baby at 23 and widowed by 24.Following Dennis' death, Ardis returned to Pelican Rapids where she again worked at Carr & Hanson's department store. On April 7, 1961 she married Kenneth Ottoson, her first husband's bachelor brother. Their daughter, Julie Marie, was born on February 27, 1962. After Kenny's death on April 15, 1980, Ardis worked at Park Region Oil Co-op.Ardis had a beautiful alto voice and on occasion would sing in church with her brother, Harold. She also sang a duet with Danny on the recording-"By Request." She loved to visit with friends and strangers. Within minutes of meeting someone she would know their life's story! In her later years, Ardis had a routine- she enjoyed going to Larry's, Pelican Drug, Wells Fargo Bank and the Post Office, visiting with people along the way. In October of 2011 Ardis began living with Julie and Brad and Danny and Merilee. She became a resident of the Pelican Valley Nursing Center in June of 2014. Ardis was a member of Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Pelican Rapids.Ardis is survived by her son, Danny (Merilee) Ottoson, rural Detroit Lakes; daughter, Julie (Brad) Larson, Fargo; four grandsons: Jordan (Candace) Ottoson, Joshua (Bobbi) Ottoson, Brandon (Kayla) Larson and Brock Larson; three great-grandchildren; Weston, Liam and Kyla Ocelle Ottoson; sister: Harriet (Gordy) Nelson, Fergus Falls; sisters-in-law: Ellen Sherbrooke and Margaret Ottoson; three brothers-in-law: Gordy Nelson, Jim Gotta and Howard Ottoson and many wonderful nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Dennis and Kenneth; three brothers: Oren, Ervin and Harold Sherbrooke; two sisters: Hazel Stensgard and Millie Stein.Visitation: Friday, February 20, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.at Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Pelican Rapids, MN.
