Mike Julian Haugrud

Mike Julian Haugrud, age 88, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Monday, March 30, 2015 at his home in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Mike Julian Haugrud was born January 20, 1927, at his parents home in Dunn Township near Pelican Rapids, the son of Martin M. and Josephine M. (Arntson) Haugrud. In 1948 he graduated from high school and helped on the family farm while his older brothers were in the service. In 1950 he bought a farm in Norwegian Grove Township near Pelican Rapids. On September 8, 1951 Mike was united in marriage to Patricia "Pat" Swanson. Mike raised chickens and pigs but later just milked cows and raised corn and grain. Mike liked to garden, hunt and fish. He loved the lake, wild animals and birds. He loved God's creation. He especially liked his Welsh Corgi, Boaz.Mike loved the Lord, being born again in 1963. As his children grew up, he spoke at nursing homes and sometimes filled in at Church Bible Studies. He also spoke at jail services and loved to visit, talking to others about Jesus and pray. Mike loved the Bible and Bible Studies. In the late 1990's he graduated from the Institute of Biblical Studies. He is survived by his 5 sons: Gaylen Haugrud, Pelican Rapids, MN, Terry (Denise Smischny) Haugrud, Pelican Rapids, MN, Jeff (Peggy) Haugrud of Lake Park, MN, Brian (Kelly) Haugrud of Moorhead, MN, and Daniel Haugrud, Pelican Rapids, MN; 2 daughters: Diane Hanson and Connie (Kerry) Grotte all of Dilworth, MN; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister: Verna Anderson of Fergus Falls, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife: Patricia "Pat" Haugrud, his parents; 6 brothers; 4 sisters; and a son-in-law: Theodore Hanson.Visitation: Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Clergy: Pastor Bob SatterlieBurial: Grove Lake Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Funeral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
