Douglas Vaughn, age 72, a resident of Jacobs Beach, Pelican Rapids, MN, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015 at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, North Dakota.Douglas Merk Joseph Vaughn was born November 16, 1942 in Breckenridge, Minnesota the son of John "Jack" and Hazel (Worner) Vaughn. In 1960 Doug graduated from Breckenridge High School. Doug served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. On October 22, 1966, Doug was united in marriage with Linda Sherman and they had four daughters. Returning from the Air Force, Doug "Bruno" then worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as a switchman. Utilizing his Air Force Training Doug went to work for Western Electric in Detroit Lakes as an installer. His last employment was working for Hohman Telephone Company, Pelican Rapids, in central office maintenance and installation retiring in 2008. In June of 2012, Doug was united in marriage with Mary Lou Johnson in St. Leonard Catholic Church in Pelican Rapids.Doug enjoyed deer hunting, landscaping, spending time outdoors, playing cards, and taking trips to the casino. Family and friends meant a lot to Doug from taking trips with good friends, Tom Summerville and Loren and Peggy Stach, visiting and spending time with his Jacobs Beach friends, colleagues of the Hohman Telephone Company, and classmates of the 1960 Breckenridge High School. Doug always treasured the Vaughn family Christmases. Douglas was a member of the Pelican Rapids V.F.W. Post #5252 and a former member of the Wahpeton Masonic Lodge.Douglas is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou, Pelican Rapids; daughters: Kimberly Hoskins, Fargo, ND, Kelly Erholtz, Detroit Lakes, Kari (Lee) Dahlgren, Vergas; stepson Wade (Judi) Johnson, Detroit Lakes; stepdaughter Tracey (Brad) Lindberg, Breckenridge; eight grandchildren: Joshua Hoskins, Justin (Alyssa) Hoskins, Hayden Hoskins, Cecelia Erholtz, Emma Erholtz, Logan Dahlgren, Drew Dahlgren, Sydney Dahlgren step grandchildren: Paige (Dustin) Benda and Blaire Lindberg; Step great-grandchild Fiona Benda; sister Penelope (Mark) Gylland, Abercrombie, N.D.; brother Craig (Shari) Vaughn, Fergus Falls; brothers-in-law, Darvel Vickers and Gary Brendel; Mary Lou's siblings: Louis (Connie) Marick: Kathleen Bates, Carolyn (Arvin) Leabo and Yvonne (Wade) Hansen; family member Butch "Everett" Hoskins; and numerous nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Karoline Hazel Vaughn, sisters: Jacqueline Brendel, Gloria Wold, Kathy Vickers: brother, John Vaughn and brother-in-law Purdon Wold.Memorial Gathering: Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, rural Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2015, at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, rural Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.Clergy: Father Bob LaPlante and Father Stan WieserBurial: Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge, MinnesotaFuneral Home: Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MinnesotaOnline Guestbook: www.larsonfuneralpelicanrapids.com
