Mary Jeannette (Prater) Morgan, age 97, passed away Tuesday, September 15th at the Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids.Jeannette was born October 7, 1917 in Ashland, KY to Frank C. and Hebe J. Prater. She grew to be a tall, dark-haired beauty who loved playing basketball and was part of a championship high school team. After school, she moved to Columbus, Ohio where she enjoyed doing office work for the US Department of Forestry. There she met and married James T. Morgan in 1948. Jeannette and Jim had two daughters and moved to St. Paul, MN which they called home for the next twenty-five years. When their daughters were successfully out on their own, the Morgans retired to Harlingen, TX where they made good friends and played lots and lots of tennis which they loved. They traveled and made the most of more than twenty years of good health in retirement. Jim died in 2002, and Jeannette moved into Golden Palms Retirement Home in Harlingen, Texas. In 2012, Jeannette moved into what is now Riverfront on Main Assisted Living in Pelican Rapids, MN where she received and greatly appreciated excellent, loving care for the rest of her life. Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Frank Prater as well as her husband Jim. She is survived by her daughter Hebe (Jim) Shipp of Pelican Rapids, MN and their son Jacob Shipp of Fargo, ND and her daughter Becky (Steve) Berg of Benicia, CA and their daughters Ashley (Keahn) Morris and Julia Berg of San Francisco, CA. She was independent, kind, generous, and funny and will be greatly missed.
