Janet Lenore Restad

Janet Restad, age 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. Janet Lenore Restad was born August 16, 1937 to Herbert and Inga (Langseth) Bahr in Grand Forks, ND. She graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1955.Janet married Douglas Hensrud and they had 6 children, 1 of whom died in infancy. Early in her adult life, Janet was a self-taught seamstress, and worked her way up to manage a drapery department. In her early 40's, Janet went back to school for nursing at East Grand Forks Vocational Technical College and obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse Certification. She worked at the Medical Center Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Forks for many years. On January 14, 1983, she married the love of her life, Amos Restad in Grand Forks, ND. After Amos retired, they moved to Lake Lizzie, MN and Janet worked at Pelican Valley Clinic and Health Center and later at Pelican Valley Nursing Home. After Amos passed away, Janet moved to Pelican Rapids. She continued her service to others, which was a theme throughout her life, by volunteering for Organizing Acts of Kindness for Seniors (OAKS) Pelican Rapids.Janet enjoyed making lefse and baking, playing cards with her friends, participating in the Red Hats club, being active in Faith Lutheran Church, quilting, traveling, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was considered a true friend and support by many of her friends and family.Janet is survived by her sons Donald (Natasha) Hensrud, Rochester, MN, and David (Flanna) Hensrud, Sawyer, MI; daughters Tammy (Luke DeLalio) Hensrud, Valley Stream, NY, and Laura Hensrud, Pelican Rapids, MN, 13 grandchildren: Gabrielle, Alexandra, Isaac Hensrud (Don); Morgen Kerian, Rainer DeLalio (Tammy); Davey, Kelsey, Kiley Hensrud (David); Matt, Mike, Joe, James Hensrud, and Travis Hensrud (James) and 6 great-grandchildren; her sister, Janice (Milt) Nelson; Amos's son Tim (Judy) Restad, and daughters Lynn (Ron) Bartuska, Susan (Terry) Hurst, and Amos's 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides.She was preceded in death by her husband Amos Restad, her brother Ardell Bahr, sons Danny Ray and James (Korie) Henry Hensrud, and Amos's sons Tom (Connie) and Lee Restad.In Lieu of Flowers Memorials preferred to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church and OAKS (Organizing Acts of Kindness for Seniors.)Memorial Gathering: Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids.
