Phyllis Haugrud

Phyllis Haugrud, age 76, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Sanford Health Palliative Care in Fargo, ND surrounded by her loving family.Phyllis Elaine Herting was born December 7, 1939 in Pelican Rapids, the daughter of Ernest and Tillie (Egstad) Herting. She graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1957 and later graduated from Minneapolis-Humboldt Institute. Phyllis worked at Security State Bank in Fergus Falls for several years. On August 1, 1959 she was united in marriage with Lyle Haugrud at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. Phyllis and Lyle remained in Pelican Rapids, where they raised their three children: Christopher, Anthony and Jill. Phyllis also owned and operated a sewing business, specializing in wedding dresses. In 1991, she and her two sisters opened Prairie View Estates, a Bed and Breakfast located near Pelican Rapids, where they welcomed guests for nearly 17 years.Phyllis was a very active member at Grove Lake Lutheran Church as choir director, member of church council, ladies aide, circle, and quilting groups. For many years Phyllis helped with church bazaars and dinners. She was a member of the Pelican Rapids Chamber of Commerce, Dunn/Scambler Township Homemakers group, the Pelican Rapids chapter of Sweet Adelines, and the Pelican Pipers Quartet. Phyllis enjoyed volunteering at the Pelican Rapids Schools, Meals On Wheels, blood drives and other community affairs. Phyllis loved meeting and visiting with people and will be missed by all those who loved her. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lyle Haugrud, Pelican Rapids; two sons: Christopher (Karin) Haugrud, Pelican Rapids and Anthony Haugrud, Dayton, OH; daughter Jill (Brent) Denault, Cavalier, ND; 7 grandchildren: Colton, Erin, and Maris Haugrud, Tyler and Sarah Haugrud, and Hunter and Delaney Denault; sister Janet (Duane) Malakowsky, Horace, ND; sisters-in-law: Marjorie (Al) Farmer, Phyllis Anderson, Marilyn (Dan) Kuhlman, Joyce (Bruce) Weller; brother-in-law Daryl (Collette) Haugrud; and numerous nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents, and sister Carol Moses.Visitation: Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids, MN.
