John Ned Lyden

John Ned Lyden, age 87, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died very peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, MN.John was born May 12, 1929 in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Ned Algot and Christine (Strom) Lyden. He was baptized and confirmed at Central Lutheran Church rural Pelican Rapids. He attended school in Pelican Rapids, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1947. He entered the US Army in 1954 and served his country during the Korean War achieving the rank of Specialist 4 and was discharged with honors in 1956.On October 26, 1957 John married Bonita (Bonnie) Ruud at Central Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids. He started farming with his father as a young boy on the Lyden family farm, homesteaded in 1883. John continued with dairy cows and crops until retiring in 1991. They continued to live on the farm until 2012 and he and Bonnie spent many enjoyable days together hosting their granddaughters, family and friends at their cabin on Lake Lida. John was very active in Central Lutheran Church, serving on the council and was a lifelong member. He was a member and participated in a variety of activities with American Legion Post #17 in Pelican Rapids and was involved with the 4-H. John enjoyed fishing; deer, goose, and duck hunting; trapping; and dancing. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, and motorcycling. John is survived by his wife, Bonnie, Rothsay; son, Glenn (Deb Shirley) Lyden, Rochester; daughter, Wendy (Pat) Dolezal, Bemidji; two granddaughters; Chelsea and Ashley Dolezal; niece: Judy (Chip) Skauge; nephew: Jerry (Ruth) Grant; sisters-in-law: Lois Schweer, Susan (Brad) Erickson; one brother-in-law: Darrel (Gloria) Ruud and many cousins.He is preceded in death by his parents; sister: Marcelle Grant; brother-in-law: Norman Grant and several aunts, uncles and cousins.The family wishes to add special thanks for the compassion and dedication shown by the caregivers at the Minnesota Veterans Home and Lakeland Hospice in Fergus Falls.
